1. Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque
Architecture and Photography Rules
Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque dominates the capital’s skyline with 82 domes and four minarets, and it can hold around 40,000 worshippers. The main prayer hall has one of the world’s largest hand-knotted carpets and several huge crystal chandeliers, and the white marble courtyards and reflecting pools are the most photographed part.

Personal photos with a phone or a non-professional camera are allowed at the designated photo stops. Commercial or media shooting is not, and professional equipment needs a permit from the mosque authorities.
Helpful tipAsk before photographing other visitors, particularly anyone praying. It is a place of worship first and a landmark second.

Tickets, Dress Code and Visiting Hours
Entry has been paid since September 2026. According to The National, tourists pay AED 10, UAE residents with an Emirates ID pay AED 5, visitors who come through tour operators pay AED 8, and visitors aged 60 and over enter free. Visitors should pre-book an online access pass on the mosque’s own page, which also lists the visiting hours. Some tourist listings still say entry is free, so rely on the mosque’s page.
Respectful clothing is required. According to the mosque’s Mosque Manners page, women need loose clothing down to the ankles, sleeves to the wrists and a headscarf that covers the hair. Men should avoid sleeveless or tight shirts, and clothing that covers the whole leg is preferred.
Outside Ramadan, the mosque is open from 9:00 to 20:30 (last entry at 20:00) every day except Friday. On Friday it opens from 9:00 to 11:30 and again from 14:30 to 20:30. Ramadan hours differ.
2. Louvre Abu Dhabi (Saadiyat Island)
The Dome and the Collections
Architect Jean Nouvel covered the museum with a wide dome of interlocking layers, perforated with thousands of star-shaped openings. Sunlight filters through them and falls as a pattern, the «rain of light», on the galleries and water channels below. The dome seems to float above the complex.
The permanent collection tells art history as one shared story. Galleries set ancient Mediterranean works next to Islamic calligraphy, European paintings and contemporary art from the Arab world.
Tickets and Opening Hours
Adult ticket prices change, so check them on the official Louvre Abu Dhabi ticket page. Under-18s go free, according to Visit Abu Dhabi. Most listings show the museum closed on Mondays, so confirm the opening days before you go.
Helpful tipArrive at opening for quieter galleries, and leave time for the open courtyard, where the dome’s light patterns move with the sun.

3. Qasr Al Watan (The Presidential Palace)
The Great Hall and the Palace in Motion Show
Qasr Al Watan is a working presidential palace that is open to visitors, and a showcase of Arabian craftsmanship. The Great Hall sits under a large central dome, with geometric marble patterns, mirrored details and a giant chandelier. In the evening, the palace hosts Palace in Motion, a projection show on its facade that tells the story of the country.
Helpful tipShow times change by month, so check the schedule and book on the official Qasr Al Watan site before you plan the evening.

4. Ferrari World Yas Island
Formula Rossa and the Family Zones
Formula Rossa defines Yas Island’s adrenaline profile. The coaster uses a hydraulic launch to reach 240 km/h in 4.9 seconds. The park is fully air-conditioned and also has racing simulators, family coasters and automotive exhibits. Tickets and any multi-park options are on the official Ferrari World site, and prices vary by date and ticket type.

Helpful tipIf you want to arrive in a Ferrari, the Ferrari F8 Tributo Spider starts from AED 3 710 a day, and the Roma and the SF90 Stradale are in the fleet too.

5. Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi
Themed Lands and Rides
Warner Bros. World is billed as the world’s largest indoor theme park, so it is a comfortable choice when it is hot outside. The park is divided into six lands: Gotham City, Metropolis, Cartoon Junction, Bedrock, Dynamite Gulch and Warner Bros. Plaza. Gotham and Metropolis have the faster rides based on DC Comics, while Cartoon Junction and Bedrock suit younger children. Tickets are on the official park site.
Helpful tipA family with children and bags moving between Yas Island parks needs space. A Cadillac Escalade or a Chevrolet Tahoe makes the day easier.

6. Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi
Signature Slides and Emirati Themes
Yas Waterworld mixes fast water rides with a story about Emirati pearl diving. Dawwama, a tornado-style water coaster, is the headline ride, and the park has dozens of other slides and attractions. See tickets and opening hours on the official Yas Waterworld site.
Helpful tipYas Waterworld, Ferrari World and Warner Bros. World are close together. If you plan two parks in one day, compare multi-park tickets on the park sites first.

7. Jubail Mangrove Park
Eco-Tours, Kayaking and Wildlife
Jubail Island’s mangrove park is a calm contrast to the city skyline. Boardwalks and kayak stations let visitors move through the protected channels and watch birds and marine life. Keep to the marked routes and do not disturb wildlife. Early morning offers the calmest water. Entry and kayak prices are on the park’s official site.
Helpful tipThe roads to Jubail Island are paved, so any rental car will do. Go early, before the heat builds.

8. Emirates Palace and Observation Deck at 300
A Landmark Hotel and a High Viewpoint
Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental is one of the capital’s landmark five-star hotels, on the Corniche. A short distance away, the Observation Deck at 300 is on level 74 of the second tower of Etihad Towers and describes itself as the highest vantage point in Abu Dhabi, with views across the city and the Gulf. Tickets and the Abu Dhabi Pass are on the Visit Abu Dhabi page, and the hotel has its own page for visits and dining.
9. Qasr Al Hosn and House of Artisans
The City’s Oldest Stone Building
Qasr Al Hosn dates back to the 1760s, when a coral-stone watchtower was built to guard a freshwater well. It later grew into a fort and the ruler’s residence, and today it tells the story of how the emirate changed. Next to its walls, the House of Artisans celebrates living Emirati crafts and runs workshops such as beginner Sadu weaving.
Helpful tipHours differ by day: on the official Qasr Al Hosn site it opens from 9:00 to 20:00 on Saturday to Thursday, but only from 14:00 to 20:00 on Friday.

10. The Corniche and Saadiyat Beach
Coastal Promenades and Sea Turtles
The Corniche runs about 8 km along the western waterfront, with paved paths for walking and cycling and views across the bay. Saadiyat Beach has soft white sand and is a nesting site for hawksbill turtles, whose season runs from roughly April to July. Keep to the marked areas and give turtles space. Free access to the promenade is standard, but beach entry may be charged, so check at the gate.
Helpful tipThe wide, well-kept Corniche Road suits a top-down drive. Between November and March the weather is best, and our convertible cars are ideal for it.

Driving from Dubai to Abu Dhabi
Route, Time and Tolls
From Downtown Dubai to Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque it is about 130 km, or roughly 90 minutes without traffic, mostly on the E11. Allow more time for Dubai’s morning and evening rush hours.
Abu Dhabi’s toll system is called Darb, and each gate charges AED 4 per crossing, according to the Abu Dhabi Mobility page on Darb fees. Two newer gates, Ghantoot and Al Qurm, opened in May 2026 and charge 24 hours a day, as announced by the Integrated Transport Centre. The Darb page lists charging windows of 7:00 to 9:00 and 15:00 to 19:00, with no charge on Sundays and official holidays. Darb and Salik are billed to the renter separately after the rental ends.
Parking and Speed Limits
Paid parking in Abu Dhabi is run under the Mawaqif system. According to the official parking page, standard parking costs AED 2 per hour or AED 15 for the whole day, and premium parking AED 3 per hour with a 4-hour limit. Both are charged from 8:00 to midnight and are free on Sundays and public holidays.
Abu Dhabi Police removed the speed buffer (typically 20 km/h) in 2018, as Gulf News explained, so keep to the posted limit. Fines are forwarded to the renter and paid after the rental.
Mileage and Rental Terms
Each car has its own daily mileage limit (200–250 km, shown on the car page), and extra kilometres are charged separately. A round trip between Dubai and Abu Dhabi is around 260 km before any driving in the city, so for a full day with Yas Island and Saadiyat, a two-day rental gives you two daily allowances.
There is no deposit. Tourists need a passport, a driving licence from their home country and an International Driving Permit. UAE residents need a UAE licence and Emirates ID. Minimum age and driving experience depend on the car (from 21 to 25 years, shown on each car page). Within Dubai, delivery is free from AED 10,000, otherwise AED 185 from 09:00 to 21:00 and AED 235 from 21:00 to 09:00, plus 5% VAT, so you can set off from your hotel.
Helpful tipOur cars are handed over with a full tank and must come back full, so plan a refuel in Dubai before you return the car after the Abu Dhabi trip.

Suggested Abu Dhabi Itineraries
1-Day Highlights Tour
A single day needs tight routing. Start at Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque at 9:00 with your online pass, to see the marble in morning light before the crowds. Drive to Qasr Al Watan for late morning and explore the Great Hall. After lunch, spend the afternoon at Louvre Abu Dhabi, and finish with a sunset walk on the Corniche. Drives between these central stops usually take 15–30 minutes.
3-Day Family and Culture Itinerary
Day 1 covers the cultural core: the mosque in the morning, Qasr Al Hosn at midday, the Louvre in the afternoon and the Corniche at dusk. Day 2 is for Yas Island: arrive at Ferrari World at opening to avoid the coaster queues, then move to air-conditioned Warner Bros. World in the afternoon. Day 3 is a nature reset: an early kayak session at Jubail Mangrove Park, midday on Saadiyat Beach and dinner in the city centre.
Practical Travel Guide and Etiquette
Best Time to Visit Abu Dhabi
November to March is the most comfortable period, with average daytime highs of roughly 24–31 °C, which suits coastal drives, mangrove kayaking and beach visits. April and October are hotter at around 35–37 °C, and June to August brings 41–43 °C, which pushes sightseeing indoors.
Helpful tipIn summer, plan your days around air-conditioned venues such as Warner Bros. World, Ferrari World and Louvre Abu Dhabi, and keep outdoor stops for early morning or after sunset.

Choosing a Car for Abu Dhabi
A car removes the hassle of moving between islands and the city centre. Families usually prefer a roomy minivan such as the Mercedes V-Class, or one of our SUVs such as the BMW X7, which handle luggage and multi-stop days. For a smart arrival at a hotel, a Range Rover HSE or a Mercedes G63 are common choices.
Etiquette in Brief
- Wear modest clothing in the mosque, malls and public places, with shoulders and knees covered.
- Ask before photographing people, and follow the signs at the mosque and other sites.
- During Ramadan, avoid eating, drinking and smoking in public during daylight hours, out of respect for people who fast. Hotels and many cafes have screened areas.
- Keep public behaviour modest, and check local guidance before you travel.
